In addition to preparing for Monday’s benefit concert, Ostrow is serving as assistant director for YMCT’s upcoming production of Frank Loesser’s ambitiously operatic musical “The Most Happy Fella” (which runs July 21 – 30 at the El Cerrito High School Performing Arts Theater, ymtcbayarea.org). The apprenticeship continues his long and creatively fecund relationship with conductor and music director David Moschler, who’s directed about a dozen YMCT shows in which Ostrow has been cast.

As the fates would have it, Manning came across a first edition, 1937, of “Eating Around San Francisco” by Ruth Thompson and Chef Louis Hanges.
